This book discusses the issues related to the provision of escape route in high-rise buildings, particularly in the high-rise residential buildings. The provision of escape route as regulated in the Uniform Building By-Laws (Malaysia) and The Building Regulation (United Kingdoms) are referred. The escape route specifications, such as staircase risers and treads, the specification of handrail, computing the staircase width and a number of staircases to be provided in the high-rise buildings are discussed. In addition, the provision of fire doors, emergency exit signage, and alternative exit routes are included. Fire safety management and step-by-step fire safety risk assessment on buildings are deliberated based on the fire safety risk analysis developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Fire Protection Association, United Kingdom.
