Synopsis

There are various emerging issues and dilemmas related to governance for sustainable development to be explored in Southeast Asia. With its increasing emerging economies in recent years, the region is undoubtedly the most dynamic region, enjoying rapid urbanization and industrialization but increasingly facing environmental water, and energy insecurity and challenges. The main question remains how these sustainable development issues are governed in Southeast Asia and how the governance regimes that emerge operate in practice. Following the recent adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by all 193 member countries of the United Nations (UN), there have been efforts in the region to improve the governance structure at the national and regional levels. Given the recent governance reform for sustainable development in the region, the ensuing question is what the implications for sustainable development are. Thus, this book provides fresh insights into the study of these empirical puzzles.
